Objectives
The aim of the CIG Catholic Group to provide Civil Servants with an integrated programme of formation in Catholic Social Teaching in ‘name of their particular Christian vocation and mission’ (Compendium of Catholic Social Teaching, paragraph 550) which is the field of service to the Government of the United Kingdom.
To ensure that the Social Doctrine of the Church can be adapted for use in the specific context which Civil Servants operate, the group bases its programmes around four pillars of formation: Human, Intellectual, Apostolic and Spiritual Formation.
Pillar One: Human Formation
Aim: To promote the cultivation of ‘human qualities’ in civil servants through providing an education in the ‘integral truth of the human person’.
Pillar Two: Apostolic Formation
Aim: To educate Civil Servants in the ‘theological’ dimension of the issues of Government.
Pillar Three: Spiritual Formation
Aim: To support Civil Servants in developing an ‘authentic lay spirituality’ that equips Civil Servants in ‘Bringing faith and life together’ in their workplace.
Pillar 4: Intellectual Formation
Aim: To Provide Civil Servants with an intellectual formation that is ‘open to and is directed toward knowing and adhering to God' through an education in developments in the Church’s Social Doctrine.
